Tuesday Best Weather Day of the Week Severe Weather Risks Rise Wednesday

After a Monday of changeable sky conditions and warmer temperatures we have a Tuesday that probably goes down as the best weather day of the week so take advantage of that. We are far enough away from both last night’s weather system that brought showers and thunderstorms to the Mid Atlantic. That has now weakened and passed to the east. The next weather system and cold front will be impacting the Ohio Valley today so we should be in a good spot. We expect no worse than partly sunny skies today. High temperatures will reach the mid 70s to some lower 80s. Of course look for cooler conditions along south and east facing shorelines.

We have been seeing non stop severe weather across the Plains and Mississippi River Valleys but the overall weather pattern is shifting away from troughs in the Western US to one where troughs will be in the Eastern US. This means that the severe weather profile will now be impacting areas east of the Mississippi River in the coming days and possibly in the coming weeks.

We will begin with today where the Ohio and Tennessee Valley are under a slight to enhanced risk for severe weather with elevated tornado risk as well as EF2-EF5 tornado risk. Eastern Pennsylvania is under general thunderstorm risk for tonight as a warm front goes by. We could see some showers or a thunderstorm during the overnight hours as warmer more humid air pushes northeast.

Very warm conditions are forecast for Wednesday as skies should go partly sunny. This will set off daytime heating and there will be more of a west wind which means that any thunderstorms that develop might be able to resist any sea breezes that develop. High temperatures will reach into the 80s in many locations with only the immediate coast seeing local sea breezes and cooler mid and late afternoon temperatures.

We expect some scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms to develop and the Storm Prediction Center is showing a marginal risk for severe weather extending up the Hudson Valley as well as in Western New England on the northern flank. The risk extends southward into the Middle Atlantic states. Note that the Storm Prediction Center is showing enhanced risk from the Lower Mississippi Valley to the lower Ohio Valley Wednesday. This also comes with elevated tornado risk and the risk for EF2-EF5 tornadoes.

Low pressure will be heading out of the Ohio Valley and moving to Western Pennsylvania and then east across Southern New York Thursday. There will be a warm front cutting across Northern Pennsylvania and the northern half of New Jersey. Thursday’s severe weather risk looks to be from Southern New Jersey southward as winds turn more onshore north of the frontal boundary. We will put clouds in the forecast with the chance for showers. Most highs will be in the 60s to around 70.

Low pressure develops offshore Friday and an upper trough will be moving through so look for lots of clouds and lingering showers around Friday with highs in the 60s. Saturday dayside looks to be dry but we could see some showers or a thunderstorm Saturday night and again later Sunday as an upper trough and a couple of weather fronts move through the Northeast.
