This is going to a be a rough day for the Northeast and Mid Atlantic states. The Storm Prediction Center has severe weather risk indicated over a very large area from Maine southward to Northeast North Carolina and this includes all of Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England. The main threat time will be mid afternoon through the evening hours. Severe thunderstorms in the mix will produce winds of 50 to 60 mph or more with damaging winds the biggest risk today.

Isolated tornadoes are also possible and the risk extends also from Maine to Northeast North Carolina. It matches up with the zone of slight risk indicated by the Storm Prediction Center. Update forecasts will be issued later this morning from the Storm Prediction Center but at this time we don’t expect much of a change in the outlook.

To be frank, weather models are often times rather useless when it comes to the when and where of these small scale events. I could switch back and forth from different models and all show different areas getting hit with thunderstorms. The best approach is to recognize the risk and watch satellite loops and radar loops later today and this evening to see how these thunderstorms develop.

Overnight we saw some thunderstorms and heavy rain move through especially in Southern New Jersey and points south which was good news for that very dry area. The daytime Sunday will be hot and very humid with highs reaching the 90s in many areas. Dew points will reach the low 70s making for a very sticky day indeed. Once thunderstorms play through tonight, we will see improvement late tonight.

Monday bring lots of sunshine, low humidity, a nice north wind, and highs in the low 80s. Tuesday will be sunny and warm with humidity still in check. Highs will reach the low and middle 80s. Wednesday we will see a return to hot and more humid conditions but it should still be thunderstorm free. Highs Wednesday will be in the mid to upper 80s. Thursday the 4th of July, it will be hot and humid and we could see a late day or evening scattered thunderstorm. Highs will reach into the 90s once again.
