Increasing Wind Rain Arriving Late Today into Wednesday Night,

Quick Cold Shot Follows Thursday

A surge of very warm air continues to push northward today into the Northeast and Mid Atlantic states. 70s and 80s are spreading across the Ohio and Tennessee Valley. The warmest of the warm air will stay to our west but across Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England today we will see sunshine giving way to arriving clouds. 60s will push up into Northern New Jersey and Pennsylvania while areas from NYC east will see highs in the 50s mainly due to an increasing south wind off the cold ocean

To the west we have clouds pushing eastward and we will see showers, thunderstorms and severe weather develop across the Northern Ohio Valley to the Lower Great Lakes. The severe thunderstorms won’t move east but we will see rain and possibly some embedded heavier downpours or even a thunderstorm move through this evening and through the first part of tonight. Temperatures overnight will go nowhere, holding in the 40s to around 50 degrees in many locations.

Wednesday we will see showery rains especially in the afternoon and evening along with the chance for a thunderstorm or two. Winds will be increasing as the gradient tightens between low pressure to our northwest and high pressure offshore. Most areas will see winds just below wind advisory criteria except perhaps for the immediate coast where southwest winds will likely gust to 40 mph or more at times.

Through all of this temperatures will be very warm as highs will be in the 60s again in areas inland and west of the coast while for south and east facing shorelines, temperatures will be in the 50s to around 60 degrees. How high temperatures get will ultimately hinge on whether we could see some breaks of sun in between waves of showers.

The cold front passes through Wednesday evening and sweeps rain and any thunderstorms offshore. Skies will clear out later at night into Thursday morning. There is a quick shot of cold air behind the front and that will send temperatures falling into the 30s with some 20s inland. Thursday we will see clouds and sunshine, breezy and cold conditions with most highs in the upper 30s to mid 40s.

As far as rainfall is concerned, the showery nature of the rains late today into tonight, and the rains from the cold front will be limited as the weather system involved is moving faster than advertised a few days ago. Look for total rainfall amounts of a half to 3/4 of an inch with some locally higher amounts to an inch or so possible in some places. Flooding should not be an issue.

Friday looks to be a dry day with sunshine giving way to arriving clouds and highs in the 40s. Low pressure to the south will move offshore and push rain up the coast Friday night into Saturday morning but the system will move out fast and weather conditions should improve from west to east during the day Saturday. Dry and relatively warm weather is forecast for Sunday.
