Gloom & Doom Day Onshore Winds & Rain

Marginal Improvement Over the Weekend

It is a gloom and doom type scenario here as we finish off a very busy weather week in the Eastern US. Low pressure is passing by to the south across Virginia and is in no hurry to get out of the way. Northeast winds are bringing in chilly moist ocean air making for a raw weather day. Waves of rain will be pivoting through. It will be somewhat on and off but there will be enough going on today to make for a miserable spring weather day. Temperatures will be in the 50s all day long and in some places barely so.

This low to the south will eventually move out to the east overnight though we will some rain through at least part of tonight and then it diminishes and ends. However there is a problem over the weekend in that we have two upper troughs that will be passing over the Northeast. This is going to keep things rather cold and unstable aloft. If I had to pick the better weekend day, it will likely be Saturday but it will not be picture perfect by any means.

The second upper trough for later Saturday night into Sunday afternoon is the stronger one and it is likley to produce a few showers or even a thunderstorm late  Saturday night into Sunday afternoon. Sunday is Mother’s Day and at least in the Northeast, it has become a bit of a tradition recently of being a not so nice weather day.

Saturday at least we will be losing the east wind and going to more of a south or southwest wind. There will probably be some breaks of sunshine Saturday though we will also see some clouds and there is the chance for an scattered shower or two. For most Saturday will be ok with highs back into the 60s. Showers and perhaps a thunderstorm will move through Saturday night and there will be some patchy showers into Sunday aftenroon. Sunday highs will also be in the 60s.

Next week brings a return to normalcy as far as temperatures are concerned but we will still be under a parade of weather systems that will bring opportunities for showers. There is a warm front passing Monday afternoon and that could bring some clouds and perhaps a shower or two. Low pressure and a cold front will bring another round of rain and perhaps a track to the south meaning gloom & doom could be back Tuesday into Thursday.
